The University of Plymouth Law Society (UPLS) offers a variety of competitions. Each competition is run by two students who were elected officers for the upcoming academic year. Competitions include negotiations, debating, mooting, mock trial and client interviewing.
As a member of the UPLS, you can participate in as many of the competitions as you would like. All competitions that are available to our members are an amazing addition to your CV and will help you develop your transferable skills even further. The UPLS also has impeccable links with the law school and a variety of law firms. Throughout these competitions, our local legal community will support both you and the society by judging stages of the competitions. This gives members the opportunity to interact with professionals and receive invaluable feedback on how to improve and strengthen your future career.
The UPLS also hold an annual networking event that members can attend named Cheese and Wine. This evening provides you the opportunity to begin building bridges, maintain current relationships or even make new ones with professionals. It is a great chance for students to get their name out there and practice networking! This event has a limited amounts of tickets, so be sure to reserve one as soon as they go live to avoid disappointment.
Alongside this, career and employability events are also planned throughout the year to maximise your potential even further. In the past these have included public speaking masterclasses, CV workshops, training contract application workshops and day in the life of barristers and solicitors. If you have any events that you would like to see hosted, please feel free to get in touch with the Secretary and Careers Officer and put forward your suggestions.
In addition to the above, the annual Law Ball is held at the end of the academic year. This evening is filled with awards for members, raffles, good food, drink and lots of fun! Every year it has been one to remember as there really is no better way to finish off the year with your friends and fellow members.
As a society, we recognise it is just as important to get out there and have a good time. For that reason, we try to make your experience even more worthwhile by planning nights out together. If you have any suggestions please reach out to one of the Committee members so it can be discussed. We also provide the opportunity for members to participate in football and netball for fun, holding training sessions and games with other University of Plymouth societies to let off some steam.
THE UPLS IS OPEN TO ALL IRRESPECTIVE OF YOUR PROGRAMME OF STUDY.
