Our intention is to support our members, helping them to build connections with both the current legal profession and other members of the society. In addition to this, members are able to develop their transferable skills while gaining a greater understanding of what it takes to be a lawyer.
We give hands on experience by running a variety of successful competitions throughout the year. These include: Debating, Mooting, Negotiations, Mock Trial and Client Interviewing, all of which are supported by our local legal community who sponsor us and judge competitions finals.
The UPLS also attend regular host talks, an example being the Annual Pilgram Fathers lecture in which Sir Terence Etherton (Master of the Rolls) spoke in 2018 and The Lord Burnett of Maldon (Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales) spoke in 2019.
As well as this, the UPLS aim to provide career events, ranging from CV workshops to public speaking to day in the life of a guest speaker so our members can gain further insight and advice in relation to the legal field.
As a Society, we encourage our members to get involved with charity work throughout the year. This academic year the charity we will be supporting and fundraising for is Mind.
Though our main focus is to help enrich members' CV's, we also have an active social calendar. This includes our annual Cheese and Wine networking event and highly anticipated and incomparable end of year Law Ball.
Whether you’re an aspiring solicitor, barrister or would like to take an alternative route with the Law degree, we have just the right events and opportunities for you to be a part of!
